Beware of fraud attempts on second-hand platforms

On the second-hand platform vinted.at we have observed an increasing number of scams aimed at new sellers. The supposedly interested buyers quickly get in touch and ask for your phone number. This is followed by text messages in the name of Vinted asking for "confirmation of credit card data" in order to receive the payment from the buyer.

What happens in reality

These SMS do not originate from vinted.at, but from the criminals. For the supposed "confirmation" of your credit card, you are directed to a replicated Vinted website. If you enter your financial data on such a fake website, it ends up directly in the hands of the criminals. The fraudsters try to use the data obtained in this way to access your internet banking and initiate payment orders.

How can you protect yourself of this scam?

  • Never authorize a login in s Identity if you do not actually want to access your Internet banking yourself.
  • Generally, you do not need an s Identity authorization to receive a payment.
  • In s Identity, check precisely each time what is being authorized - only authorize actions that you have actually started yourself - read more about this in our security tips.

On watchlist-internet.at you will find a detailed summary of this scam.
